State & Local Taxes

North Carolina's flat individual income tax is scheduled to fall to 3.99% in 2026 and continue declining toward 2.49% by 2030 — one of the most aggressive cuts in the country. There is no state estate tax.

Mecklenburg County property tax (combined city + county) runs roughly 0.95–1.10% of assessed value. Sales tax is 7.25%. Vehicle registration includes a property-tax component.

Utilities run below Northeast averages thanks to Duke Energy rates and mild winters. Auto insurance is markedly lower than coastal California or Tri-State markets.
